Free Web hosting is a great choice for those who are just starting out on the web with their website. There also a good choice when someone doesn't have enough money to purchase a hosting account for their site or it's just a personal website. Or even you are just playing around and learning how to code a website. But for those serious about making money from their site, they should consider paid hosting I got to be honest here, if I went to a website that sold merchandise and I knew the site was on free Hosting I would leave and not purchase anything from your site. The reason is because if your not willing to put around $5.00 a month into hosting your site, then I think that your site is probably a scam and wouldn't risk it. Below I will list the advantages and disadvantages of free hosting over paid hosting. the type of hosting that is right for your site.
Advantages Of free hosting
Well that's pretty obvious isn't it? :) There's no monthly or yearly payment that you have to pay.
hmmm what kind of advantage suggestion is that you say? Well truthfully I ran out of advantages of free hosting. Well lets get to the disadvantages. :)
Disadvantages of free hosting
If you don't mind having your visitors driven away by popup ads, then by all means sign up with any free host that will place popup ads on your site. The ones that don't are almost non existent. And if it's not pop up ads it's almost always some kind of annoying ad. The host gets all the money from the ads and you don't see a cent.
Almost all free web hosts have terrible uptime and the sites that are hosted on these free hosts are almost always down. And no wonder there down all the time. They put thousands upon thousands of websites on one server and you know "a crash" is bound to happen sooner or later. And do you think they really care how fast they get that server back up? I'm sorry to say but those free hosts could care less that your website is down and they have no problem waiting until it is convenient for them to get the server back online.
No Technical support
Free hosts DO NOT have any technical support. If you know of one free host that DOES have technical support then let me know. I would be surprised.
No FTP Access
Most free web hosts don't have FTP Access. FTP Access is a must in a host if you upload alot of files to the server. The only host that I know of that does have FTP access is 000webhost
